From $40K Nursing Assistant to $500K in Real Estate

Most agents hit a ceiling at some point, and it’s usually not a business problem. It’s an identity problem. The habits that got you your first deals, the hustle, the need to control everything, the constant urgency, those same traits can quietly become the things that hold you back from the next level. And the hardest part is that letting go of who you’ve been can feel like losing a part of yourself.

That’s exactly what today’s Identity Shift guest went through. Marcela Herrera is the team lead of the Homegirl Real Estate Team. She went from earning $40,000 a year as a nursing assistant at a children’s hospital to building a real estate career producing over $400,000 to $500,000 annually. Along the way, she went through a divorce, lost 50 pounds, invested in coaching, starting with Tony Robbins’ Unleash the Power Within, and completely rebuilt who she was from the inside out.

What makes Marcela different from anyone I’ve worked with is that philanthropy isn’t a side project for her. It’s the reason she’s in real estate. Every year, her team collects over a thousand toys for the annual Christmas toy drive benefiting Santa Claus Chaffey District Inc. in Ontario. She organizes backpack drives for low-income families. And when the LA fires hit earlier this year, she stopped working for a full week to be on the ground, collecting thousands of donated items and helping feed over 300 first responders in Pasadena.
